Marks of the Lost Page

Fucking white-wolf forums. Well, needed an update here anyway.

Marks of the Lost Page *

This pair of marks is made of a hundred torn pages, each from a different book with a different owner, borrowed, assalted, and returned. These pages are folded and woven into an elegant mark that can be attuned for a single mote. Upon placing it between the pages of a book the owner may leave it as a mundane place holder or spend a mote for one of two options.

The first is to banish the mark to elsewhere. This keeps its place in the book when it's summoned back by the user which may be done for another mote at any point while she is holding the book. Alternatively she may banish the book. Like the other option, the mark maintains its place once resummoned for another mote which may be done anytime she is holding the mark.

As an added benefit of using multiple marks in one book, the owner may choose to only banish the pages between the two as well as the marks. This has the effect of making the missing pages seem torn from the book. A 2 dot pair of marks may banish pages similarly, though as a shaping effect it hides all references to the missing pages: the binding slims, the table of contents, page numbers, and all references within the book change, or are removed, as needed to eliminate all traces while the selected pages are banished.

Unlike other artifacts, the owner of these marks does not need daily contact to maintain her attunement. She may also sharethemarkswith others; by holding them together with the owner another may attune to a pair with a commitment of a single mote of his own. This allows him to use the pair as the owner, banishing or summoning, but cannot spread the attunement further. Anyone attuned to a mark innately knows when holding one if a book is banished, or if he is holding a book with a banished mark.
